Research
NHS England has launched a new service evaluation and audit that aims to provide important up-to-date information to clinicians relating clinical aspects of COVID-19 while also determining the care needs of children admitted to hospital with COVID-19. We encourage members working in England to submit data as needed.

To access the data collection form and registration forms, visit www.covidinchildren.co.uk

COVID-19 Simulations
Picture
This simulation allows you to test the process of managing an acutely unwell child with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 in your Trust. The simulation focuses on the logistics of managing a child with full PPE from arrival in ED to intubation and retrieval by SORT. You can download the simulation resources by clicking on the document here.

This scenario has been run in Southampton and proved very useful in exposing potential problems in the system which have now been addressed. PIER encourages all Trusts to run a COVID-19 simulation with a paediatric scenario to identify and solve the unique challenges that come with managing a child with PPE precautions.

You can find the summary of the Southampton simulation with learning points and action plan here. Shared learning is so important as we all learn to cope with this new virus and its impact on children's services. If you are willing to share any learning points from your own simulations, please contact us at  education@piernetwork.org or on Twitter @pier_network.
