I am keen to update you on some exciting education opportunities coming up for the region, both within the Wessex Children’s & Young Adults Palliative Care Network, and from the Strategic Clinical Networks across the South West and South East. I have listed these below. Due to holidays and faculty availability we have had to move our quarterly forum meeting to 6th June and the next Journal club to 17th July. There are still spaces for the foundation study day and ACP training days in September booked via our PIER site here https://www.piernetwork.org/wcyapcn.html. Please see the email further below pertaining to the wider education approach being developed between the South West and South East teams. This will form the backdrop for the work we do in Wessex. Our training in Wessex will aim to focus on the practical and locally relevant aspects of the South of England approach. Please do make use of these resources as they will only be available whilst funding lasts! For information I have updated the WCYAPCN terms of reference, proposal and education and training strategy documents all attached. Very best wishes Tim WCYAPCN dates for the diary and training opportunities: NEW DATE 6TH JUNE 1-2.30PM: Network forum meeting – focus on pain in children with severe neurological impairment. This includes two fantastic online resources. The first is an ‘introduction course’, the second is an ‘enhanced’ course. Information can be found on the two courses here: Home | International Children's Palliative Care Network: elearning (elearnicpcn.org). These are interaction rich courses and will be an excellent opportunity for staff as neonates make up a greater proportion of the PEoLC work moving forwards. Masterclasses The South West team are offering a range of training courses and forum gatherings to learn and share. These are very high quality training days and applicable across the region. See information in the email below and attachments. Moodle Platform Many of you I have had the pleasure of ‘seeing’ on the Opioids course, hosted on the moodle platform. This is being expanded to exclude some new and exciting modules from advance care planning, syringe driver training, verification of death and more. Based on the opioids course, this is extremely well put together and helps staff to meet their mandatory training requirements as well as palliative care competencies. More information to come soon. Email from South of England Team: As part of our South of England Education offer for our combined Paediatric Palliative Care (PPC) workforce funded as a region, I am pleased to report an anticipated launch date of June 24’ for our online virtual platform; all details on how to join the modules will be shared at this time.
To meet all learning styles and to compliment the online presence we are also offering a comprehensive programme of in person masterclasses covered in the attached document. This was previously shared with you at the start of this month; therefore, some dates have now taken place but many remain and our event day has since been postponed however we plan to re-engage with you all on our next steps surrounding this event soon. A gentle reminder that these masterclasses are available to our regional and neighbouring workforce, currently these are the only dates we are able to offer the face-to-face element of the training strategy; we would therefore actively encourage applications as soon as possible to secure a place. Drawing your attention to the Masterclass in Advanced Communication Skills on complex decision making and ethics in paediatric palliative care taking place next Thursday in Bristol, details of this day attached above; to secure your place please click here; CLICK HERE Please can I ask for your support in the dissemination of these documents to enable them to land with our systems and onto our teams on the ground; we have also made sure we have circulated via our clinical contact lists available to us at region. If you have any questions on above, please come back to me and I look forward to providing an update on our launch in June to support our combined investment to our incredible paediatric palliative care workforce.
