The Wessex Paediatric AMS Network brings together healthcare professionals (paediatricians, microbiologists, pharmacists and nurses) from across the region to support the safe and effective use of antibiotics in children. Our shared goal is to improve care for children with infections while helping to reduce antimicrobial resistance.

The network connects teams working in hospitals across Wessex and the Channel Islands to share expertise, resources, and good practice. Together, we focus on using antibiotics wisely — following national guidelines, supporting timely intravenous-to-oral switches, and ensuring diagnostic tests are used appropriately.

We provide education, training, and regular opportunities to discuss challenging cases and learn from each other. The network also supports quality improvement projects and benchmarking to help identify and address variation in antimicrobial use across services.

By working collaboratively, the Wessex Paediatric AMS Network aims to strengthen antimicrobial stewardship across all areas of paediatric care and ensure that every child receives the right treatment, in the right place, at the right time.
