Started in early 2025, Wessex Paeds Mentoring is led by a group of senior paediatric trainees who recognise that sometimes we could all do with a friendly face to help us navigate the various challenges we face as we progress through our training. We want to provide support from those who have been through it (and survived!) in recent years.
What is mentoring?
Mentoring is an opportunity for you to develop a connection with a more senior peer who can help guide you through aspects of your training that you may be finding unsettling, as well as promoting fulfilment and opportunities within paediatrics. The specific relationship will vary from individual to individual but may include:
Advice around training prospects or challenges.
Wellbeing support.
Facilitating problem solving.
Helping to empower you to make decisions about your career and personal goals.
Who is it for?
Any Paediatric Trainee currently at ST2,3 or 4 who feels like they would like a mentor. You do not have to be struggling to request one – we will all face different challenges along the way. We hope to expand the programme further to other trainees as soon as possible.
How can you get involved?
I would like a Mentor.
Great! Contact us on [email protected] and we will send you more information and a mentoring agreement. You will be sent details of mentors who have availability so you can express a preference if you would like. We will initially pair you for 6 months but you may be able to continue for longer.
I would like to be a Mentor.
Amazing! We are always looking for more senior trainees who would be keen to provide mentorship. Email us on [email protected] and we can discuss further. Mentors will be provided with initial training and ongoing peer-to-peer support. Please write a short bio with a little background about you that we can share.
